The Runner

The Runner is a theatre project created in Israel and is centered on a member of Z.A.K.A, an Orthodox Jewish volunteer force in Israel that collects the remains of Jews killed in accidents. In Judaism it's required that every part of a person’s body be buried by sundown the following day, and Z.A.K.A. members assist by collecting people's remains. The Runner explores how this religious calling affects one’s daily life, ethical foundation and perception of death. The Runner began in 2008 and to date playwright Christopher Morris has completed two workshops in Israel. The production will premiere in Toronto in March/2015 and tour to Israel in 2016. It will be presented in English and Hebrew (with English surtitles).
