Creation History

Night has been developed over three four-week creation workshops spread over a period of three years. Rehearsals during the first three creation workshops will take place in the arctic darkness of Pond Inlet, Nunavut and Akureyri, Iceland. The play has been created by five theatre artists (two Inuit, two Icelandic and one Southern Canadian). This rehearsal process relies heavily on the artists’ life experience and reactions to the arctic winter, resulting in a unique piece of theatre incorporating three distinct performance styles, languages and world-views. Night will premiere at the National Arts Centre, Ottawa in January/2010 then tour throughout the Canadian Arctic, Iceland and the Circumpolar World.
